Heavy Equipment Field Service Technician

The Heavy Equipment Field Service Tech competencies and responsibilities include but are not limited to the tasks described. 

  • Performs all required maintenance, service, cleaning, and repairs on customer and/or dealer-owned construction equipment.
  • Diagnoses malfunctions and faults, and performs all approved repairs.
  • Repairs and replaces mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic components.
  • Reviews work orders and communicates with team members.
  • Maintains a safe, clean, orderly, and efficient work environment that complies with safety regulations and company standards.
  • Maintains quality in visual and mechanical inspection methods. 
  • Demonstrates concern for personal accuracy and quality of work. 
  • Follows and promotes safe handling and disposal of all hazardous waste material and fluids.
  • Performs pre-start checks and ensures equipment is ready for utilization.
  • Possesses demonstrated electrical and hydraulic troubleshooting ability.
  • Possesses demonstrated ability to troubleshoot via hydraulic and/or electrical schematics.
  • Possesses demonstrated ability to troubleshoot via diagnostic software.
  • Possesses demonstrated ability to read various measuring tools.
  • Maintains professional and respectful demeanor while interfacing with customers and team members.
  • Possesses ability to train and mentor others. 
  • Is a self-starter with the ability to work independently as well as on a team.  
  • Possesses ability to work on a variety of equipment at various locations.
  • Proactively addresses mistakes and values feedback. 
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license and commercial driver’s license (CDL).

Qualifications/Recommendations:

  • A valid driver’s license
  • Accepted Licenses: 310S - Automotive Service Technician; 421A - Heavy Duty Equipment Technician; 433A - Industrial Mechanic Millwright; 310T - Truck and Coach Technician; 435A - Small Engine Technician; 310G - Motorcycle Technician; 425A - Agriculture Equipment Technician; 282E - Powered Lift Truck Technician; 310J - Truck and Trailer Service Technician.  
  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma, industry technical school or apprenticeship in heavy equipment repair, and four (4) to five (5) years of demonstrated experience and ability to work on heavy equipment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Professional interpersonal communication (oral and written) skills required.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Punctual and reliable. 
  • Customer-oriented with a knowledge and understanding of the business and culture of our customers.
